If you're a regular reader of these pages (or attend the Goodwood Festival of Speed), you're probably aware of New Zealander Mad Mike Whiddett's daily tyre-shredding labour.
The Red Bull-backed drifter showed up to Lord March's garden party in 2019 in a converted Lamborghini Huracán LP580-2, but before to that, every Mad Mike Goodwood visit was in a rotary-engined Mazda of some form.
And now we have some particularly exciting news for you: Whiddett has revealed on Instagram that he will compete in this year's Pikes Peak hillclimb.
Oh, and he'll be driving a Mazda 3 with a Wankel engine that produces 1,200 horsepower.
The 3 will have rear-wheel drive (because to skids), with a big aero kit and a quad-exit exhaust poking straight out of the hood, according to the render above.
Expect a blaze.
That's about all we know for now, but when the race comes around in June, Mad Mike and the bonkers 3 will undoubtedly be worth watching.
For the time being, we'll simply have to wait for the road-going homologation special.
