The Toyota GR86 Outroad shows how far the lightweight sports coupe can be pushed off the beaten path. Built by Japanese aftermarket specialist Kuhl, it combines a lifted suspension, rugged styling, and optional turbo power. Even though it’s not U.S.-bound, it’s a build enthusiasts won’t ignore.
The Kuhl Racing GR86 Outroad features a 3-inch suspension lift, 25-mm fender extensions, and an optional turbo kit boosting output to 290 hp from the stock 228 hp.
We’ll get this out of the way first: the Kuhl Toyota GR86 Outroad isn’t coming to the U.S.
Still, it’s one of the most interesting GR86 builds to surface, showing just how far the aftermarket can push Toyota’s lightweight sports coupe.
Built by Japanese aftermarket specialist Kuhl Racing, the Toyota GR86 Outroad is an all-terrain take on the rear-wheel-drive coupe, drawing inspiration from machines like the Porsche 911 Dakar and Lamborghini Huracán Sterrato.
Unlike those limited-production exotics, Kuhl’s conversion costs the equivalent of around $26,500, with an optional $8,000 turbo kit available.
The Outroad conversion costs approximately $26,500 and includes custom coilovers, redesigned bumpers, side steps, and an optional hydraulic lifter adding 1.5 inches of ground clearance.
The base Outroad package focuses on suspension and body upgrades.
A custom coilover setup lifts the GR86 by three inches, while an optional hydraulic lifter adds another 1.5 inches of clearance.
Exterior changes include redesigned front and rear bumpers, side steps, a rear under-spoiler, and 25-mm-wide fender extensions that give the coupe a rugged, rally-inspired stance.
For buyers seeking more performance, Kuhl offers a turbo kit that includes ECU tuning, an oil cooler, and a revised oil pan.
Output rises to a claimed 290 horsepower, up from the stock 228 hp.
Additional options range from 18-inch forged wheels and upgraded brakes to a roof carrier and trunk spoiler.
The Kuhl Toyota GR86 Outroad is scheduled to make its official debut at the 2026 Tokyo Auto Salon in January.
While it remains a Japan-only proposition for now, the Outroad is likely to reignite calls for a factory-backed, off-road-focused GR86 in the future.
