Shelby Super Snake-R Turns the Dark Horse Mustang Into an 850-HP Track Beast

Shelby American’s latest build starts with the current-generation Ford Mustang Dark Horse and elevates it into a focused track weapon.

The Super Snake-R pairs headline power with serious chassis and aero upgrades, all while retaining everyday drivability.

Under the hood, the 5.0-liter Coyote V8 receives a Whipple supercharger, lifting output to 850 horsepower on 93-octane fuel. Supporting hardware includes an upgraded radiator for improved cooling, an active exhaust system, and reinforced halfshafts to channel the extra torque reliably.

With more octane on tap, there’s potential for even stronger performance, but as it sits, the Super Snake-R is engineered to deliver relentless pace on track days and confidence on the street.

Fully adjustable coilovers underline the car’s track-first tuning philosophy. Forged magnesium wheels from MP Wheels measure 20 inches all around, a massive 13 inches wide at the rear. The setup allows for significantly larger tires, think sticky track rubber expanding the contact patch for superior traction and balance.

Despite their size, the wheels shave about four kilograms per corner versus the factory setup, sharpening response. Braking and handling are further enhanced with slotted brake rotors, front and rear anti-roll bars, and adjustable camber plates.

Inside, Shelby fits new bucket seats and installs a harness bar; the rear seats are removed to save weight and emphasize the car’s track intent. The cabin remains usable and familiar for daily duty, but every change is made with performance in mind.

You won’t mistake this Mustang for anything stock. The Super Snake-R wears widebody fenders, distinctive badging, and liberal carbon fiber: hood vents, front splitter, rear wing, diffuser, and more.

Shelby says each element blends form with function, creating a cohesive, race-ready silhouette that plants the car to the tarmac at speed.

The Super Snake-R package is priced at $225,000 (approximately £165,000) and includes the Dark Horse as part of the build. Customers specify their options, Shelby completes the transformation, and the car is delivered with a three-year warranty.

With its 850 hp punch and comprehensive chassis upgrades, the Super Snake-R is set to run at the sharp end of any U.S. track day while remaining civil enough for the commute.
